How it started for us

My collection started with a ring.

While I was still a student, I visited Inhorgenta in 2011 in Munich, where I bought a black aluminium ring by Christian Bürger. It wasn't an expensive purchase, but it was unlike anything I had seen before. That ring sparked my fascination with contemporary jewellery and became the first piece in what would eventually become our collection.

Over the years, I met my partner Dennis, and collecting became something we shared. Today, our collection has grown to around 400 pieces, but it all started with that one ring. Many of the pieces that followed were small and affordable, pins, brooches and simple rings that we discovered one by one.

From collector to curator

Looking back, it's no coincidence that every artist we represent today is also part of our personal collection. We never started by looking for artists to work with—we started by collecting the jewellery we genuinely loved.

Long before we had the privilege of representing designers such as Karen Vanmol, Märtha Mattsson and Carolina Apollonio, their work already had a place in our collection. Today, every artist represented by J is for Jewellery is also represented in our personal collection.

That's why I believe anyone can start collecting. You don't need a large budget or a grand plan. All it takes is one piece that truly speaks to you.
